Obeah, also called Obi, is a form of magic brought to the Caribbean by West African slaves. The magic practices include both black and white magic. The Obeah men or Obeah priests use talismans, stones, parts of animals, herbs, personal objects or bodily fluids for the magic rites, e.g. for luck and love spells or healing practices. Obeah derives its power from contacting spirits and gods (demons). The magical rites are accompanied by chants or other verbal actions.
