The art of divination is also known as manticism. The aim is to reveal what is hidden in the past, present and future. The Mantic uses certain tools to practise divination, e.g. arrows (Babylonians), drinking cups (Egyptians), entrails (Greeks, Romans), wax tablets (Romans), wooden sticks with runes (Germanic tribes), rock crystals, snow crystals, bones, glass beads, mirrors, cards, palm lines, hazel rulers, pendulums (Europeans). Manticism can be found in all periods of human history. In enlightened Europe, despite rationalism and the flourishing natural sciences, Manticism is still strongly represented.

The use of the rod and pendulum can be traced back to 6000 years ago. The second oldest form of divination is astrology<\/a>, which can be traced back to 5000 years. The third form is palmistry, which has an age of about 4000 years. The palmistry was practiced in the older Babel by the priests. The fourth form is fortune telling<\/a> with the help of cards. The Romans had wax tablets with symbols carved on them, which they used for fortune-telling. The age of the card divination is about 2000 years. A fifth form is then psychometric divination. The fortune teller holds a person’s object in his hand and then makes statements about that person. A sixth form is fortune telling<\/a> with the help of a crystal ball.<\/p>\n All pagan peoples practice divination. In the Old Testament, too, we have constant warnings not to indulge in this pagan fortune-telling.<\/p>\n Leviticus 19:31: “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them.
